the studio
The studio is a work space for Alberto Garcia-Uria. His practice extends beyond creating a piece. It includes looking at what inspires him snd the process of self-discovery through his art, it is a journey of exploration, and examining themes, influences, and connections within.
Alberto’s main influences for creating art come from his life experiences as a queer Latino man and a penchant to include messages in his art that stimulates dialogue.
His work is a reflection of his culture, deeply rooted in the rich artistic traditions of the Vanguardia movement in Cuban art. Influenced by iconic artists such as Wilfredo Lam and Amelia Pelaez. He weaves Afro-Cuban and Yoruba elements into many of his creations.
“My work explores the in‑between space where figures are more felt than seen— I’m interested in how presence, absence, and memory coexist in a single moment. These paintings ask viewers to recognize themselves in the quiet tension between solitude and connection.”
